The planet is backward and primitive. The planets people are barely past discovering agriculture, technologically and have been found to have little to offer... expect the ritual stone dagger with a strange sheen that is used by one village.
Every ten years, a young adult from the village is selected by an elder, laid down on a slab, and the dagger is plunged into their chest. The individual dies... for a day. After this they return form the dead, their minds far sharper but their body quickened so that in a little over ten years they will die of old age. They act as the village's elder for that period and have been known to guide the village to great things
