This is the article on the generic shipyard. For the named shipyard, see Shipyard Naabal. |
The Shipyard was a Mothership Class vessel designed to provide the ability to construct whole fleets without the requirement of a Flagship and used extensively by the Hiigarans and Vaygr during the Vaygr War in Homeworld 2.
Overview[]
Unlike any other ship in the fleet, Shipyards cannot be constructed by a Mothership, so they are built in huge orbital facilities and hyperspaced into battle.
The shipyard is the only construction ship capable of building Battlecruisers, the largest warships in the fleet. A Shipyard represents a large investment of resources, and can only be called into battle if the player has one or more Hyperspace Modules on a production capable ship. They have a total of 4 Facility slots, 6 Module slots and 1 Sensor slot.
As a utility-class ship designed to effectively allow fleet construction, it has no meaningful weapons to speak of, and should be defended by the construction of any ship that it can produce.
Trivia[]
- During the single-player campaign, it is unlikely that a player will build one, since they will receive the Shipyard Naabal during Mission 09.
- The ability of the Shipyard to build any ship in the fleet is underlined by the fact that, in the final mission of the single-player campaign, the traditional "Mothership" does not exist, meaning the shipyard effectively becomes a de-facto Mothership.
