This is the article on the ship. For the technology that builds the ship, see Sensors Array. |
Sensors Array is a Non-Combat Ship that expands the capabilities of the sensors data provided on a Mothership.
Background[]
The sensors on the Mothership provided effective data on the local area, but proved ineffective at great distances. Instead of conducting a minor update of the sensors, a new dedicated ship was built.
By the Beast War, a specialist sensor array to expand the reach of the sensor grid were no longer needed, as command ships and future motherships were able to receive sensor upgrades automatically.
Overview[]
Up to four sensors arrays may be built at a time, though more may be captured. In practice, there is little need to build more than one, unless one is about to be destroyed: since the ability affects the entire map and refreshes quickly, building more sensors arrays are usually overkill.
Trivia[]
- The Taiidan only employ a Sensor Array in the last mission of Homeworld.
- The Homeworld: Cataclysm manual calls the Taiidan array a "Raakel-class Sensors Array"[1]
- Although more than one Sensors Array can be built by the player, there is no value in doing so as just one is enough to reveal all enemy ship locations in more detail.
- In the original Homeworld, the effect of revealing all sensor data on the sensors manager is passive and requires no commands to be given. In Homeworld Remastered, this information will only be shown when issuing a command that consumes 1000 RUs per ping. In the latter game, there is a cooldown of 10 seconds between commands.
