The Sensor Distortion Probe was a non-Combat Ship used for scrambling enemy sensors in Homeworld 2.
Overview[]
As the name suggests, this is a probe designed to scramble the sensors of enemies within its coverage area. As it is a probe, it has a single-use engine and once moved to a location, it cannot be moved again.
Trivia[]
- This ship has no functional usefulness in the single-player campaign and should not be built for any reason, because the Vaygr has no concept of sensors and will always know your location, regardless of how many of these are built and sent near Carriers or Shipyards. Likewise, the Vaygr will never even use this probe device, since it will be scripted to launch relatively generic probes instead, which are always precursors to attacks.
- Despite the relative uselessness of this ship in the single-player campaign, it is slightly more functional in multiplayer, since the opponents are often human players who are more likely to have issues with their sensors manager. However, since it is a probe, opponents can simply either gun it down or move ships to not go inside its detection zone.
