- "Basic economic and industrial vehicle." — In game description
The STS-32 Foreman-class Multi-Utility Support Vehicle is a resource gathering vehicle designed by Kiith Somtaaw used by the Coalition of the Northern Kiithid during Operation Khadiim.
Lore[]
- "While most Kiith make their reputation in the northern alliance by placing military designs into the coalition military, the Somtaaw are content knowing that without their contributions of salvager vehicles and crews, no extended desert operations would be possible. The hardy salvager is capable of using advanced phased disassembler technology to break down and gather elements from sources all the way from mineral deposits to vehicle wreckage. When it comes to actual battlefield wrecks, salvagers are armed with demolition charge dispensers to help break up large objects for the PD Array to finish harvesting quickly and efficiently." — Expedition Guide
Campaign[]
Salvagers' primary purpose is to collect resources. When giving resource collecting orders into a mixed cluster of CUs and RUs, salvagers will stay with the resource type it was initially ordered to start with, until all resource sources of that type are exhausted in the immediate area, before automatically switching to the other type. Salvagers are some of the slowest vehicles, although they are faster than the Kapisi. Travelling long distances between resource point and a drop offs is very inefficient. Keeping either the Kapisi or a Support Cruiser close to it can greatly increase the rate of resource collection.
Salvagers' secondary ability is launching ship breaking charges, which can be used to blast apart derelict ship hulls and reveal new resource patches. These charges must be detonated manually and four are needed per ship breaking operation to complete. Demolition charges can be used as weapons, dealing damage to both enemy vehicles and allied ones, and can be used in a pinch for defense for salvagers that are caught far from help, though they are inefficient for defense as they require resources to use.
In addition to resource collection and ship breaking operations, salvagers can retrieve artifacts.
Building additional salvagers can greatly speed resource collection, though this is not necessary on all missions. Up to two salvagers can gather resources from one cache at a time.
Despite being able to destroy other units with their breaking charges, salvagers do not gain veterancy with kills.
Multiplayer[]
Salvagers are largely identical in multiplayer. They are slow and vulnerable vehicles which need to be protected by escorts or a forward defensive line. In general, they are never able to outrun any enemies attacking them.
A single demolition charge can be used to complete a ship breaking operation, and they cannot be detonated manually, but are instead equipped with a timer. Demolition charges can be used as weapons, dealing damage to both enemy vehicles and allied ones. It can occasionally prove to be an effective measure to desperately destroy a group of enemy LAVs or sandskimmers attacking a resource node.
While the salvager as a non-combat unit is weak to all vehicles in a firefight, they are particularly vulnerable to strikecraft and air units, which generally have the mobility to evade forward defensive lines and attack resourcing operations.
Trivia[]
- Salvagers are manned by a single member from the Kiith Somtaaw, a small mining clan.
