In-Game Description[]

High speed, cheap harassment scout.

Strong vs. Utility and opponents with low hull integrity.

Weak vs. weaponized opponents.

The "N'Bex"-class Recon Strikecraft is a high speed, low cost Strikecraft designed to get sensors on target as fast as possible, and get out of trouble as just as quick. The N'Bex is lightly armed, but has the speed to function as an effective deep raider against resourcers or to tie down enemy Strikecraft until more heavily armed units arrive.

Technical Manual Description[]

The N'Bex class recon fighter is a high speed, low cost Strikecraft designed to get sensors on target as fast as possible and get out of trouble as just as quick. The N'Bex is lightly armed but has the speed to function at squadron strength as an effective deep raider against resourcers or to tie down enemy Strikecraft until more heavily armed units arrive. Its excellent maneuverability makes it ideal for the adoption of structure-close terrain tactics. A N'Bex is likely to be able ot make high speed entries and execute maneuvers in confined spaces that would mean disaster for larger, more heavily armed craft. Manaan Technical Systems, the designers of the N'Bex have also incorporated a drive system that allows for increased fusion element throughput giving pilots to directly vent drive plasma momentarily for a great burst of speed.[1]

Analysis[]

The Recon is good at scouting, but little else. Its hull is too fragile and its damage output too low to be effective in combat against anything other than fragile unarmed opponents, which are few and far between. They are still good to use regularly in the Campaign in a couple of instances; have a couple of them built from the Mothership and each Carrier and set them to Passive stance to prevent them from flying off and getting destroyed; this will effectively give those parent ships a strong sensor range as the Recon will follow them in military parade formation.

In the War Games, even with artifact upgrades the Recon is still too weak to use for mainline combat compared to Interceptors. However their high speed especially with Overburner plus long sensor range make them excellent at tracking down and picking up artifact crates, as when they are in a Passive stance plus in Overburner enemy ships have a hard time hitting them, and from full health they are nearly guaranteed to be able to get to at least one artifact crate in a row.
