This is the article on the probe used by the Hiigarans and Vaygr. For the older non-probe ship, see Proximity Sensor. |
The Proximity Sensor Probe was a non-Combat Ship used for detecting cloaked ships in Homeworld 2.
Overview[]
As the name suggests, this is a probe designed to detect cloaked ships passing through its coverage area. It is ultimately an inferior version of the older Proximity Sensor, because it has a single-use engine and once moved to a location, it cannot be moved again.
Trivia[]
- This ship has no functional usefulness in the single-player campaign and should not be built for any reason, because the Vaygr never employs a ship with a cloak generator module installed for there to be a need to detect cloaked ships. Likewise, the Vaygr will never even use this probe device, since it will be scripted to launch relatively generic probes instead, which are always precursors to attacks.
- Despite the relative uselessness of this ship in the single-player campaign, it is slightly more functional in multiplayer, since the opponents are often human players who are more likely to employ cloaking fields. However, since it is a probe, opponents can simply either gun it down or move ships to not go inside its detection zone.
