- "Light, fast moving reconnaissance craft." — In game description
The Scryer-class Probe is a light, unmanned reconnaissance drone produced by Coalition of the Northern Kiithid, particularly by their baserunners. Coalition baserunners launch them to survey unknown areas, and to scout for hostile Gaalsien presence. Given that they are unmanned and cost little resource to produce, they are can provide much needed information of enemy movement.
Campaign[]
Probes can be launched from coalition baserunners and are made first availabe when Kapisi reaches the Kalash site, used to scout the valley below the plateau for ship wrecks. Probes once launched, fly directly to their destination, where they will circle the area for a period of time before returning. They cannot be moved after launching and only one can be launched at a time. Drones can be attacked by any Gaalsien vehicle, including anti-air missiles or assault ship's rapid fire cannons, and they destroyed shortly after being detected by the Gaalsien. Their limited sensor range ensures that when they do detect Gaalsien presence, they are already within their weapon's range.
New probes can be constructed immediately after they are destroyed. Considering their low CU resource cost, they can be used very frequently as an inexpensive method to search and explore for hostiles.
Multiplayer[]
Probes in multiplayer have a few differences but are functionally identical. Drones can be moved after being launched from the baserunner, and can only be attacked by anti-air vehicles. They are hindered by similar limitations, such as limited sensor range, and that only a single drone can be launched at once. They cost more CUs to build however and have a thirty-second cooldown.
Probes are sometimes essential for detecting early rushes from enemy players, without forcing one to commit to research light attack vehicle fabrication. They can also be used to monitor flanking routes for enemy surprise attacks, such as the plateau at Kalash site.
Baserunners can shoot down drones with their anti-air autocannons, so drones should be wary not to stray too close.
Trivia[]
- A ball camera is visible underneath the Drone.
- The drone has no air intakes, which implies that its propulsion could be rocket powered.
