A Non-Combat Ship is a classification for vessels within the Homeworld universe. Non-Combat Ships, as the name suggests, are vessels that are not fitted out for combat having either very minor or nonexistent weapons and are susceptible to being destroyed by enemy forces. They need to be protected during their operations.

In Homeworld[]

Homeworld employs a number of ships that fulfill specific purposes. At least three of the non-combat ships must be used in order to progress the campaign, these ships being the Research Ship, Salvage Corvette and a Resource Collector. Other ships, such as Gravity Generators and Cloak Generators are not needed and can simply provide assistance in making a mission easier.

In Homeworld: Cataclysm[]

Due to the much smaller scale of Homeworld: Cataclysm, there are only a small number of non-combat ships. Ramming Frigates are unique in that, although they don't have a specific weapon such as a Mass Driver or Energy Cannons, the front of the ship is the weapon, as it is used to "ram" ships and cause damage via Afterburners. It should be noted that some of these ships contain weapons, although they can only often be used against strike craft, other non-combat or relatively weak ships, and are ill-advised to be used in actual battle:

In Homeworld 2[]

Compared to the previous games in the series, Homeworld 2 has a much smaller array of non-combat vessels, mainly as some ships have been combined with others, while introducing new ship types. Despite the Vaygr having the ability to produce Proximity Sensor and Sensor Distortion probes, neither are seen anywhere in the campaign: the Vaygr's use of probes are only ever for scripting reasons, in order to trigger battles after a short period of time.

Both sides possess the following vessels:

The Hiigarans possess a Defense Field Frigate, which helps to deal with radiation and other minor threats. The Vaygr possess a Command Corvette, which improves fighting capabilities for ships near it.

In Homeworld 3[]

It is currently unknown as to what non-combat ships will exist in Homeworld 3.
