The Nimbus Galaxy is the setting of Homeworld Mobile.
Overview[]
This galaxy was one of the galaxies that was discovered after the Vaygr War. These galaxies were discovered when it was learned that some of the hyperspace gates within the Eye of Aarran are not connected to the main network, but in fact lead to other galaxies.
15 years after the events of Homeworld 2, expedition fleets of the Hiigaran's Kiithid started dispatching to these galaxies in search of different goals. Only 1 out of 3 expeditions manage to return, but among them the Nimbus Galaxy especially is notorious: to this date, not a single fleet sent there has returned.
The shown entrance to the Nimbus Galaxy was via the Homeworld galaxy's Duzumi Gate, although it is suggested there may also be other access points. So far only the western quadrant of the Nimbus Galaxy has been explored and is accessible.
History of Expeditions[]
First expeditions[]
The first expedition to reach Nimbus was the Carrier Abiigado in 9629 GSY. Though the entire battle group was destroyed by Progenitor keepers, two assault frigates managed to escape where they were captured by Cangacians pirates. The fate of the Abiigado would be unknown until those survivors arrived at Lazarus base six years later. Many other ships would arrive in Nimbus only to be unable to return through the gates or be destroyed by Progenitor keepers before they could attempt a return. The reason for the hostility of the Progenitors remains unknown.
Incursions[]
The Lazarus Expedition in 9631 GSY was the largest and best-equipped venture of the time out of the prototype Lazarus-class mothership. Though unable to return through the gate, a message was received through their departure point at Astarte gate that the expedition had defeated the keepers and continued. Lazarus would go on to venture into what is known now as the Empty Quarter and construct Lazarus Base as a staging area between several hyperspace gates discovered in the region. Afterward, the Lazarus departed with its escort fleet to the center of the galaxy. It never reached the borders of the Tanoch Empire and is presumed lost.
Upon arrival the Hiigarans found the Nimbus Galaxy to be populated by many space-faring cultures and empires, such as the Tanoch, the Yaot, the Iyatequa and the Cangacians. There have also been particularly many sightings of Progenitors vessels within this galaxy, and in recent times the presence of at least one Vaygr Crusade has also been confirmed.
When the player arrives to the Nimbus Galaxy in 9641 GSY (131 AHL) as part of Task Force Ararat, he/she finds that the Hiigaran Navy has laid claim to an uncontested region of space in the southwestern quadrant of the galaxy known the Empty Quarter and has begun to setup colonies there. From that point on, the individual Kiith have all gone their own ways: Some have become miners, others have started working together with the local factions to further their own agendas, and yet others have taken to chasing Progenitor relics and artifacts in search of lost technologies.
Kidara Sasan incursion[]
Sometime later another Hiigaran Task Force arrived called Task Force Amalek commanded by Vice Admiral Kidara Sasan who is tasked to find the gate nexus in the Nimbus Galaxy and secure it for the Hiigaran Empire and unlock travel between the Homeworld Galaxy and this one. Additionally is convinced that the Amassari knew where one is and moved to Hataldan to find out.
Then she met with Task Force Ararat and the Khar-Kaalad who tried to tell her to respect the Amassari and Progenitor technology and sovereignty but she denied that saying where was this compassion when the Kushan invaders seized Hiigara from the Taiidan Empire in the Homeworld War. As such she left to Hataldan.
Locations in the Galaxy[]
See Homeworld Mobile: Locations
The mainly explored areas are Medea, the Iyatequa Expanse, two small Cangacian enclaves, the Yaot Federation, the Tanoch Empire, and the Amassari Remain.
Each of these areas is subdivided into smaller regions, and are populated with explorable star systems containing at least one outpost, a varying number of planets and their moons. Systems may also have asteroid belts. Each star system is different, and the player as to make use of his scanner to find and analyze each object that he might find worth of interest, such as an asteroid belt or a Jovian planet for gas mining.
A total of 252 star systems are available for exploration, granted the player developped the proper engine technology to access them all. To reach a system, one has to have an engine at least equalling the value of the system's tier : a Tier 2 system requires at least a Tier 2 engine to be jumped into, as well as potential upgrades in case of extra jump strength requirements ; a ship equipped with a Tier 5 engine should be able to reach any system.
Trivia[]
- It is revealed that the Nimbus Galaxy was named such by the Hiigarans as a reminder of how far they have come ever since they left Hiigara.
