- "Explosive device that detonates in proximity to hostile targets. " — In game description
The Vigil-class mine is a mine that provides static defence against hostile targets. Gaalsien vehicles are unable to detect them and will make no attempt to avoid or remove them.
Campaign[]
Mines can be rapidly deployed by a pair of baserunners given their 1-second cooldown. The fact that they can be punted out and deployed at a range for a cheap cost means a large field of mines can be set up rapidly and done so in advance in areas large Gaalsien strike forces will pass through. They are first made available on the 2nd Kalash wreck mission, with no research required. During this mission, they can be deployed to destroy Ashoka's forces as they close in on the Kalash site from every direction. They can even setup in advance as Ashoka enters the area of operation, should one know the rough location of Ashoka's entrance in both the Kalash site and the Beladune sea, where a very large minefield can destroy Ashoka's forces even during cutscenes.
CU is a very abundant resource throughout the expedition, especially the latter missions, so placing mines can be done so with minimal considerations of resource shortages.
Mines are very heavily armored with high amounts of hull, though this kind of durability is rarely needed as Gaalsien makes not attempt to defuse or destroy them. Mines can however take damage from collateral fire, such as from Gaalsien siege cruisers.
Mines provide tiny sensor coverage. Mines are only available in campaign.
