Kalash Site is the fourth mission in the Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak campaign. Kapisi detours to investigate the Kalash wreck site.
Overview[]
Rachel S'jet scouts ahead of the Kapisi to confirm the location of the Kalash wreck site. It is revealed to be a massive crashed spaceship. As the Kapisi arrives on-site, three possible additional wreck sites are identified in the valley below.
The wreck sites are surrounded by dangerous sand tornadoes. Avoid these while searching for the additional wreck sites. As Coalition forces deploy scanners at the wreck sites, Gaalsien advance forces arrive. Secure the wreck sites against these forces and eliminate any hostiles in the area.
Objectives[]
- Search for the Kalash
- Study the Kalash Wreck Site
- Upgrade Baserunner Fabrication
- Search for Wreckage
- Deploy Scanners at Wreckage Sites
- Use Baserunner to Deploy Turrets
- Destroy the Remaining Gaalsien Forces
Research[]
- Upgrade Baserunner Fabrication
Strategy[]
The Gaalsien won't start attacking until you have scouted or probed at least two of the potential wreck sites (NOTE, this is reduced to only 1 on Classic difficulty). Use this to your advantage; scout at most one and harvest all of the significant resources around the Kalash site before scouting others, as well as researching new upgrades. This will significantly help you for the rest of the mission. There is an enemy Production Cruiser north of the western wreck site. Destroying it early will help with protecting the sites. No matter what you do more units will come in from outside the allowed mission boundaries but destroying this cruiser will at least slow them down. Enemy units periodically spawn indefinitely, allowing units to theoretically continually destroy them for infinite experience.
Placing sensors at all three sites cause many more enemy units to spawn: a mix of sandskimmers, assault ships, heavy railguns, and production cruisers. The two western sites are relatively close enough to each other that a main force of your units should be able to protect both of them. A good strategy would be to deploy sensors at those two sites first and protect them with your main force, as well as diverting most enemy forces on the map to them, and then quickly put down multiple turrets and a sensor at the third eastern one with a single Baserunner. The eastern one should survive long enough for the scan to complete.
This mission unlocks strike fighters for construction. These fighters can quickly reach any part of the map and fire with impunity. While not enough of them can be built to entirely wipe out larger enemy groups, they can soften them enough for ground troops to clean them up easily.
Once the scan is complete, enemy units stop spawning; the mission ends once most of them are destroyed. On Classic Difficulty, remaining units will head towards the Kapisi in a last ditch effort, which shouldn't be too hard to handle unless the player is caught off guard and hasn't taken out the production carriers.
Trivia[]
- The affiliation and classification of the Kalash wreck are unknown. The ship does not currently appear in any other Homeworld game.
- The Kalash's name was mentioned in the original trailers for Hardware: Shipbreakers.
