The Soban Carrier is a class of command carrier operated by Kiith Soban who in turn are part of the Coalition of the Northern Kiithid. They are available in multiplayer games only but are part of canonical lore.

Lore[]

The Soban Carrier is a carrier class in active service with the coalition, specifically for Kiith Soban. It is a heavily modified design that draws specifications and technology from the Sakala-class and the earlier Ifriit-class.

The Soban carrier features the same number of runways for its craft, but are cut slightly shorter around the rim of the deck of the carrier. All point defence cannons are replaced with railguns. The bridge superstructure is larger and moved to the starboard section of the carrier. Soban carriers overall have a sleeker and more militaristic appearance than the utilitarian coalition carrier.

Multiplayer[]

Carriers form the core of any Soban expeditionary force. They construct vehicles, conduct repairs, supply support and launch armed logistics modules in combat. They support identical aircraft complement compared the to coalition variant.

Soban carriers' combat capabilities are noticeably weaker compared to all other carriers, specifically with lower damage output, despite equipped with railguns. These weapons begin dealing significant damage only at roughly level 5. They largely play a support role with their armed logistics modules. Soban carriers generally cannot duel with other carriers and require support from friendly vehicles.

The Microwave Emitter is unique to the Soban carrier which replaces cruise missiles found on the standard coalition carriers. Like the cruise missile, it has unlimited range and follow a low altitude trajectory, and it's ground zero becomes visible to all players after it completes its initial launch phase and enters its cruise phase. Upon hitting its mark, it produces a large microwave radiation zone for twenty seconds, any vehicles in the zone will take damage over time. Microwave emitters do not deal the same instant damage like cruise missiles, hence their ideal usages are quite different. They are ideal as an area denial weapon, specifically high ground or resource nodes. Microwave emitters reload much more rapidly and are generally used to destroy resourcing operations when opponent's attention is otherwise diverted.

Similar to its standard coalition counterpart, it has power shunting ability. Power can be diverted to different systems to make them more effective. The Soban carrier replaces its repair systems with armed logistics systems, which enables weapons for their logistics modules.

Armor Systems[]

When under massive attack from enemy railguns or cruisers, quickly shunting power to armor can greatly increase the carrier's survivability. It's generally recommended to shunt power into the carrier before it suffers too much damage, as that will greatly increase its chances to outrun and escape pursuing enemies.

Defensive Logistics[]

By default, armed logistics module's weapon are not active. At least level 1 is needed to active the armed logistics module's disrutor cannon. Their disruptor cannon inflicts low damage, but temporarily disable enemy vehicles in an area. At level 5 power, armed logistics modules can keep enemy vehicles disabled with their high fire rate and deal moderate damage. In addition, armed logistics modules can be launched from increasingly further and further distances and placed behind enemy vehicles. They can function as excellent support by disrupting large enemy formations or their resource nodes from afar. Of course, armed logistic modules can also defend resource nodes as friendly vehicles take more offensive roles. Use of defensive logistics is one of the primary strength of the Soban faction, and researching additional power is usually to power armed logistics module.

Turret Network[]

Unlike other carriers, shunting power into the turret network only moderately increases the carrier's firepower. Hence, the Soban carrier should play as a support role with its armed logistics modules, rather than using its limited weapons to engage enemy targets. The number of missiles fired is never increased despite more power, it deals roughly 130 damage per hit. The railgun turrets have a limited firing arc, of which there are four on each corner of the carrier.

Trivia[]

  • The Soban carrier features only two landing pads for strike fighters, which only open when relevant research is complete.
  • The Soban carrier captain sounds like the voice of Clea Soban.
