| This is the article on the carrier used by the Turanic Raiders. For similar carriers, see Carrier. |
The Attack Carrier is the mainstray Super Capital Ship used by the Turanic Raiders in Homeworld and Homeworld: Cataclysm.
Background[]
A large and powerful vessel, they served two roles in Turanic Fleets: Strike craft carrier and capital starship on par with destroyers. The distinctive profile of these ships made it recognizable to any commander and, like most Turanic ships, is very utilitarian. It sports a basic rectangular/octagonal hull with a large power generator and engine protruding from the bottom and a high bridge with multiple sensor arrays on top, giving the captain a good field of view.
Unlike most carriers, it is able to defend itself well against all but the heaviest enemy ships due to its thick armor, redundant operating systems, and the best weaponry ever mounted on a carrier. These included ten rapid fire Point Defence Guns for dealing with corvettes and fighters, and two large Ion Cannons for dealing with frigates and capital ships. In the rear of the ship was the entrance to the hangar bay, allowing fighters to be safely launched even while it is bringing its heavy weapons to bear.
While these ships would be excellent on the offensive, most Turanic Raider fleets use them as last resort weapons due to the cost of constructing one of these essential ships.
Overview[]
In contrast to other carriers, the attack carrier is moderately armed with a fair number of guns. Like other carriers, it holds smaller ships in dock, and disgorges them to attack nearby objectives. It moves very slowly and has a strong hull.
In Homeworld, it makes its first appearance on mission 2, where it attacks the Kushan fleet with its escort. After its fleet is overwhelmed by the Kushan, it jumps into hyperspace. It returns on mission 4, where it and the remainder of the Turanic Raiders attempt to destroy the Kushan fleet. It attempts to flee as the tide of battle turns against it, but it is destroyed before it could rendezvous with the Taiidan Empire's fleet.
Two attack carriers are found in the extra mission 4.5, where they are accompanied by large fleets and try to escape to the safety of their planetary fortress. The Kushan fleet's objective is to cut them off and destroy them.
The attack carrier cannot be captured by Salvage Corvettes.

Trivia[]
- In the Homeworld: Cataclysm manual, it is referred to as Lord-class Attack Carrier.[1]
- The page for the Ramming Frigate mistakenly refers to the Carrier as a "Chieftain-class Carrier", which is significant because that is the name for the Somtaaw Processor.
- In all the games in which it appears, it is addressed differently. Homeworld addresses it as "Mothership", Homeworld: Cataclysm as "Battle Carrier" and Homeworld Remastered simply as "Carrier".
