- "Armor-piercing ranged weapons platform. Strong against armored targets." — In game description
The Chimera-class Strike Weapons Platform (Coalition intelligence codename: P'Chirri-class Assault Railgun) is a Kiith Gaalsien armored hovercraft used during the time of Operation Khadiim.
Lore[]
- "*** Intel Analysis Addendum *** Coalition Command Eyes Only ***
It is the opinion of the Aggressor Technology Analysis Division that the appearance of the P'Chirri assault unit so soon after the deployment of the P'torr indicates that Kitth Gaalsien is somehow receiving advanced technology from an outside source. Even with all the dedicated weapon research available to the alliance, there is no viable way we could have upgraded our main railgun to a triple barrel configuration, mated it with a viable power train and fielded it all with three triads since the appearance of the P'torr heavy railgun. While the P'Chirri's triple railgun has less hitting power and range, this defect is more than compensated by its faster rate of fire. To be quite blunt, Elders, this unit should not exist. Not this soon. Not this effectively." — Expedition Guide
Campaign[]
Assault railguns may only be produced from production cruisers. Should the player hack a production cruiser, they may build their own assault railguns.
Compared to both their heavy railgun brethren and the coalition railguns, they trade some of their range advantage for movement speed and fire rate advantages. They still outrange AAVs and largely fill the same role, but better fit into the hit and run tactics of the Gaalsien offensives. After their introduction, they largely replace the heavy railguns in their arsenal, though the former can still be found in their more defensive squads.
Multiplayer[]
Assault railguns may only be produced from production cruisers.
Assault railgun straddle a line between heavy railguns and assault ships: their range is not as long as heavy railguns, nor are they as powerful, but they fire much faster. This makes them less vulnerable to LAVs or Sandskimmers. With an upgrade, they can even temporarily greatly increase their speed, allowing them to hit-and-run more effectively.
Assault railguns aren't very durable. Their shorter range and weak hulls make them easy prey at a distance from other railguns. In exchange, however, groups of assault railguns can make quick work of AAVs and cruisers.

Abilities[]
Veterancy[]
Assault railguns can rapidly gain the first few levels of experience, all of which increase their offensive power. They generally don't survive long enough to gain the last couple of experience levels, thanks to their fragility, but the last two levels make them somewhat more durable.
