This is the article on the basic corvette. For the individual ship linked together, see Acolyte. |
The Acolyte Composite Vehicle, also known as the Avenger and simply referred to as an ACV, is a corvette class vessel used by Kiith Somtaaw. Its purpose is to provide extra firepower to attack enemy ships or defend against other strike craft.
Overview[]
The ACV is designed using Linking Technology, which allows two Acolytes to dock together to form a fighter/corvette hybrid. When linked, the two Acolyte pilots split control duties, with the more experienced pilot "up top" actually flying the Avenger, while the bottom pilot becomes a weapons officer, taking control of the mass drivers, energy cannons and the EMP discharge system.
Due to its lack of resources compared to other kiithid, Somtaaw has no true corvettes, instead relying on hybrids like the ACV and MCV. Thus, the Avenger has become the main body of the Kiith Somtaaw fleet.
Function[]
The ACV is slower than an Acolyte and has lost its ability to fire missiles, but it is far stronger and more durable, with a squadron able to easily plow through mere fighters and deal considerable damage to even capital ships. ACVs also have a special EMP Discharge weapon that produces a pulse that disables an enemy ship for a few seconds. This effect can be stacked with up to ten ships, causing enemy vessels to be disabled for up to 60 seconds, providing there are enough ACV's and the discharge does not occur simultaneously with another. Should the effect be strong enough, the EMP discharge can jump to nearby enemy ships, disabling them as well.
It can be produced directly alongside standard Acolytes. Producing an ACV is obviously more expensive and time-consuming than making an Acolyte, but is slightly less expensive and less time-consuming than producing two Acolytes and commanding them to dock, making ACV production more preferred when a command ship or carrier is attacked during a fight. A common tactic is to have a squadron of Acolytes fly to a location, combine into ACVs before engaging (optionally after firing missiles for a burst of initial damage), then split up once again into Acolytes after the battle is over in order to reposition or resupply.
The Beast stole this ship from Kiith Somtaaw and used it as a light corvette.
